About Silver Tech Notes
Silver Tech Notes is published by Pioneer Eagle, an independent publisher focused on one subject: helping older adults and their families handle the technology and paperwork of modern care without the runaround.
Why this publication exists
If you are looking after aging parents — or you are the aging parent, looking after yourself — you have noticed that everything now runs through a screen, a portal, or an app. Doctor’s offices, pharmacies, Medicare plans, hearing clinics: all of it assumes you are comfortable online and can read fine print on a phone.
A lot of families are quietly struggling with that. Not because they are not capable, but because nobody explains things plainly, in normal-sized print, at a normal pace. That is the gap this publication fills: careful, plain-spoken articles on Medicare, hearing, medicines, and the everyday tools that keep a family coordinated.
Part of the Silver Tech family
This blog is the written companion to two sister projects:
- Silver Tech — a care-coordination app we are building for families: shared calendars, a medication checklist everyone can see, care notes, and a shared expense ledger, all in one calm place. Our own family’s experience coordinating care for aging parents is what started it.
- Health After 65 — our video channel covering the same ground in short, clear episodes: Medicare deadlines, hearing health, medicine safety, and senior tech tips.
When an article here grows out of a video, or a video grows out of an article, we will say so and link the two, so you can read or watch in whichever way suits you.
How we write
- Plain language first. If a term needs a definition, we give one, in the sentence where it appears.
- No medical advice. We explain how things work and what questions to ask. Decisions about your care belong to you and your doctor, full stop.
- No hype. We do not promote miracle cures, and we do not repeat a claim just because an advertiser made it.
- Honest about money. Some links on this site are affiliate links. That is how a small publication pays its bills, and we disclose it openly — see our Affiliate Disclosure. A commission never decides what we recommend.
